| SOME HELPFUL HINTS To avoid any uncertainty with your score, when every player in your group has finished putting out confirm your score out loud in hearing distance to all your partners. If you are unsure whether it is your ball that is in the rough ask one of your playing partners to identify it for you. It is illegal to pick your ball up to identify it and then replace it yourself If a ball is in a water hazard or bunker you must identify that ball as your own before playing it. It is a 2 shot penalty if you play the wrong ball. If a ball struck by you hits you, your buggy, trolley or bag is the penalty is 1 shot.
Our Society has adopted the “Play when ready” philosophy. If you are ready to play and one of your partners who is further away than you are from the hole is not ready, then tell him you are going to play first.
- If you are in the slightest doubt whether you will find your ball, play a provisional ball.
- If you or your playing partners hit a shot anywhere near another player it is right to call FOUR loudly to inform them of the danger. It is better to call four and the ball misses them by a long way than having the embarrassment of injuring another player.
- Our Society has adopted the “Play when ready” philosophy. If you are ready to play and one of your partners who is further away than you are from the hole is not ready, then tell him you are going to play first.
If you are unable to hit the green (distance) but are waiting for a player who has the honour, ask to go first.
If your group loses a hole, you must call the group behind you through. Likewise, if you see you are losing ground on the group in front of you try and speed up.
If a player comes out of a green side bunker and does not make the green or is next to play either offer to rake their bunker or play your next shot.
Your shadow (line of sight) or voice (from hearing distance) can be off putting to others so bear this in mind where you stand and keep quiet when another player is playing their shot.
When your group has finished putting out, replace the flag and leave the green area so the group behind can play their shots. Mark your scorecard after you have walked away.
Try to take all your clubs towards the green that you will potentially when you are not able to park your trolley in close proximity.
Try to always leave the club that you have used on a pitch shot in a direct line on the green between your exit point and your trolley. This will save you losing or forgetting clubs after putting out.
If you have putted out and you are waiting for the others to finish, look around the area near the hole for spike marks to tap down. When all players have finished quickly tap the spike marks down before leaving the green
If you do not have any chance of scoring on a hole in a competition other than a medal, please pick up your ball.
