of the Society were involved in our second annual away trip from 13th to 15th September. This year’s short tour involved playing La Finca near Torrevieja before a journey down to Las Alcazares where we stayed for two nights to play Lo Romero. Bright sunshine greeted us on arrival at La Finca and the one barman and one chef coped very well with our orders for breakfast.

The course was in good condition apart from the tees which were probably some of the worst we have ever seen but our party played it very well with ten members scoring over 30 points. Our winner on the day was trip organiser, John Feek, with a great score of 41 points. In second place was the ever consistent Norman Howell on 38 points with the third spot going to Martin Gates (35 points). Colin Cooper put up a nearest the pin for the day and this was taken by Paul Edwards. We then moved on to our hotel where we spent an enjoyable evening although perhaps some were a little late to bed having consumed slightly too much lemonade!

Our second day was at the lovely course of Lo Romero which impressed all of us very much and these challenging eighteen holes proved a great test of accuracy. Despite the rather late night, our party were up for the challenge with ten players beating 30 points. The winner today was Paul Edwards who has certainly got to grips with Spanish courses during his six months here. Paul scored an impressive 42 points beating Colin Cooper by three shots with David Knight in third place with the same score of 39.
We were at Lo Romero for the second time on our third day and with a little local knowledge gained from the previous day and a slightly earlier bedtime the previous night, twelve members managed to beat the thirty point mark. Again we had a winner with forty points and today it was Norman Howell, with Colin Cooper the bridesmaid again despite another 39 points. Third place went to Martin Gates with 37 points.
There were prizes on offer for the overall points score over the three days and this went to Colin Cooper with a total of 112 beating Norman Howell (110) into second place. John Feek also put up a trophy and prizes for a pairs competition, the pairs having been drawn blindly with a lower handicapper partnering a high handicapper. It was therefore pure chance that Colin and Norman were drawn together but obviously carried off this team prize with a total of 222 points. Second place went to the pairing of Martin Gates and Paul Edwards with 215. There was one other prize given to us by Campbell Lamont Golf through whom we made the arrangements and this was a golf lesson for the person who came sixteenth, admirably claimed by Paul Massey! A thoroughly enjoyable three days golf was had by the party and thanks go to John Feek for his organisation.
